MANNATT GUPTA: Built Between Uttarakhand and New York

Designed for longevity over fleeting trends, MANNATT GUPTA centers its work on functional elegance. The studio constructs lightweight, minimal pieces that adapt effortlessly to the wearer. By prioritizing ease of movement and sharp execution, the brand gives women practical, sophisticated options for daily wear.

The eponymous designer built her studio around two distinct environments.Parsons School of Design taught Mannatt how to draft patterns and assemble tailored garments. But her core ideas about clothing came much earlier from Uttarakhand, India, where women dressed for comfort and terrain rather than trends. She started her brand to bring those sharp studio techniques back to easy, functional clothes.

Over consecutive seasons, the studio has expanded its repertoire through practical experiments with custom textiles and regional handcrafts. Over the years, the atelier has built a distinct visual language around transformative design, moving from eco-conscious botanical and ice dyes to expressive, Rothko inspired color fields executed through fluid georgette and structured leather. As the label grew, the workshop introduced modular, detachable garments alongside specialized techniques like Madame Grès pleating, zari embroidery, and hand felting. Later developments brought complex 3D surface cording and couture raffia work, most notably on a geometric cape that took over 150 days to stitch by hand. That level of technical detail helped take the brand from local presentations to international representation across Milan, Paris, and New York.

The label backs up its visual style with a low-waste business model. Inventory rarely sits on shelves here because clothing gets cut only after a customer buys it. Tailors in the workshop receive fair pay while working with animal-free fabrics and zero-waste cuts. Even the shipping boxes stay simple. Everything comes down to construction quality, giving buyers pieces they can actually fix and keep wearing for a long time.
