Understanding fragrance notes

A fragrance is made up of three layers, called notes, which develop one after another as the perfume settles on the skin.

  • Top notes are the first impression. They are the scent perceived immediately after application, usually light and fresh (citrus, herbs, spices), and they fade the fastest.
